Bacterial therapy

Skin barrier dysfunction and microbiome imbalance are two of the main challenges in eczema. One particular bacteria is implicated. A huge increase in harmful Staphylococcus aureus contributes to immune dysregulation by triggering an inflammatory response called Th2. Th2 dominates in eczema, leading to redness & itching flares, loss of the skin's own antibacterial peptides and barrier protective proteins, along with increased skin pH.

These conditions allow Staphylococcus aureus to thrive, and release toxins that further harm the skin barrier. However, a new approach to managing eczema-prone skin harnesses live probiotic bacteria to inhibit Staphylococcus aureus. It works with nature to restore a healthier microbiome, calming and soothing inflammation.

"I have sensitive skin, eczema and dark patches.. this oil has changed the game for me. Softest skin, less itchy, pigmentation minimised... after my shower before my other creams." - Shanaia

probiotics in action

Living Lactobacillus probiotics act like bodyguards to aid eczema-prone skin. They produce antibacterial peptides to help control Staphylococcus aureus, which promotes healthier immunity and reduces flare-ups.

Our probiotic coconut oil contains live Lactobacillus bacteria, and is scientifically validated to inhibit Staphylococcus aureus (NZ lab, 2022). It can be used both preventatively to help restore bacterial balance, and support the skin's healing process.

Our kawakawa balm provides extra anti-inflammatory power to help calm flare-ups. Together the coconut oil and kawakawa balm supports a healthier and more resilient skin ecosystem.

The acid test

supporting pH balance

Having weakly acidic skin (pH 4.5-5.5) is super important to suppress Staphylococcus aureus growth and aid proper immune function.

Most people with eczema-prone skin have raised skin pH which activates inflammation pathways and inhibits ceramide production.

Lowering skin pH to a healthy range makes it harder for T-cells to activate eczema inflammation and promotes ceramide production for a healthier skin barrier.

Our probiotic coconut oil naturally contains lactic acid bio-ferments from its fermentation process, which helps reacidify the skin and supports ceramide production.
